Description:
Review of the new BMW x3 with road test drives. What we like is it feels like the handling and performance you get on a normal BMW yet your in a 4x4. The X3 is also very comfortable and quite roomy all around. Unlike it competitors like from Audi for instance, it is also pretty good off road. ShiftMetal still feel it is quite expensive for what you get with a few better, cheaper options available from other manufacturers. Both petrol engines sit in the top tier of the road tax band. You get two suspension setting, sports or standard. The first stiffens up the ride. Noise from engine is quite minimal, except on normal roads where the revs have to be kept quite high. There are two petrol engines, a 2.5 litre and a 3.0 litre. There are also three diesel power plants to choose from, a 148bhp 2.0, a 215bhp 3.0 and the twin-turbocharged 3.0sd. The latter is a very smooth ride. The cabin has been upgraded from the original X3, however there are still a few switches and knobs that are plasticky, cheapening the whole experience. Prices start from about £29,660 rising to £39,165. This off roader has been granted euro encap rating of 4 stars. The test drive and video review comes courtesy of NewCarNet and may not be the opinion of ShiftMetal.
